This weekend just gone, the cancer which had been afflicting him worsened dramatically, and Graham Dowdall passed away on 16th June. We all feared it was coming, but all his friends had hoped - as he did - that there might be a bit longer to go. We are very glad to have been able to capture some of his life story before he left us, and I know I speak for a huge number of his friends and colleagues when I say that his stoicism, and also his approach to life and work in general - understanding that the creative act in the moment and connecting with other individuals through that are infinitely more important than any of the window dressing around it - remain inspiring even in his absence. I’ll leave it to his close friends Keith Moliné and David Stubbs to sum things up, and below are a gallery of some more of Brian’s portraits - I know there’ll be more appreciations to come, but let this be a chance to dig into Dowdall’s incredible catalogue, if you haven’t already. To pick just a couple of favourites, here’s him playing live in the woods, and here is the stunning “Nunhead Cemetery” written with and about him by Roshi Nasehi. Go well, Dids.
